Ink & Wash
This technique emerged during the Tang dynasty of China (618–907), and overturned earlier, more realistic techniques. It is typically monochrome, using only shades of black and conveying the perceived “spirit” or “essence” of a subject over direct imitation. Line and wash, or ink and wash is an expressive, playful and versatile way of working. Ideal for capturing scenes while travelling as all the materials (pad, ink pen, brush) easily fit into a bag.
